The health of today’s children is compromised by a culture of convenience and increasingly sedentary activity. Eating fast food, watching TV and playing video games has become habitual while a nutritious diet and physical activity is on the decrease.

A recent report from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences indicates that approximately 30.3% of children between the ages of 6 to 11 are overweight and that half of these are obese. For adolescents between the ages of 12 to 19, 30.4% are overweight and again half of these obese.
Much higher than in previous years
Concerned parents have come to me requesting exercise programs for their children, which establish a lifetime of good health.

A rigorous exercise regime may not be beneficial for young children, particularly between the ages of 10 and 14, as their skeletal frame cannot handle the intensity as its is changing and developing massively during this time. A more low impact workout such as fitness Pilates would be the suitable level.

Thank you to the Youth Workers for hearing me out with this appeal for children and I hope, much to the delight of parents children who attend the youth centre on a Thursday evening, can now book a place for free at my Fitness Pilates class, 7pm-8pm.
